Advocacy Services for Abuse Survivors
Legal, medical & personal support in Arizona
Our advocacy services are designed to support survivors through some of the most difficult moments—whether it’s going to court, navigating a hospital visit, or making a plan to stay safe. We offer mobile and in-person advocacy across Southeastern Arizona, including Safford, Thatcher, and rural surrounding areas. All services are free, private, and tailored to your individual needs.
Types of Advocacy We Provide
Personalized support for every survivor
Court & Legal Advocacy
If you need help filing for an order of protection or showing up in court, our advocates can assist. We help survivors understand the legal process, complete necessary paperwork, and attend hearings when you need emotional support. While we’re not attorneys, we can connect you with legal aid and help make the process less overwhelming. Advocacy is available whether or not you’re staying in our shelter.
Safety Planning Support
A safety plan is a step-by-step strategy to protect yourself and your family in dangerous situations. Our advocates can work with you to build a plan that fits your life—whether you’re still in the relationship, preparing to leave, or have already left. We consider your children, pets, housing, transportation, and any concerns about retaliation. No matter what stage you’re in, we’ll help you think through your options clearly and carefully.
Medical & Hospital Advocacy
Survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault often face medical exams or hospital visits that feel overwhelming. Our trained advocates can meet you at the hospital, stay with you through exams, and help communicate your needs to medical staff. We’re here to offer comfort, explain your rights, and make sure you feel heard during every step of your care. This service is available at any hour—just call or text to request an advocate.
Advocacy for Children & Teens
We offer advocacy designed specifically for children and teens who’ve experienced violence, either directly or as part of a family. For children, this may include safety planning, emotional support, and help adjusting while in shelter. Teen advocates also provide confidential guidance on dating violence, unhealthy relationships, and getting help at school or in the community. Our goal is to make sure every young person feels heard and safe.
Mobile Advocacy Services
You don’t have to come to us to get help. Our mobile advocacy program allows us to meet survivors in safe public places—such as courthouses, hospitals, or other locations in your community. This service is especially helpful for those who may not have transportation or feel safe traveling. We serve communities throughout Graham and Greenlee Counties.
Questions About Advocacy Services
What to expect when reaching out
-
What exactly does an advocate do?
Yes. All of our services—including shelter, advocacy, support groups, and assistance with housing—are completely free of charge. We are a nonprofit organization supported by grants and community donations, so survivors never have to worry about cost. Our priority is making sure you feel safe, supported, and informed without adding financial pressure. Whether you’re calling for advice or staying in our shelter, you won’t be billed or asked for payment.
-
Can I get advocacy help if I’m not staying in shelter?
Yes. You do not need to stay in our shelter to access advocacy services. Many of the survivors we support live independently or are in the process of leaving an abusive relationship. We can still help with safety planning, legal processes, or connecting you to resources in your area.
-
Is what I say to an advocate confidential?
Yes, everything you tell an advocate is kept private unless you give us permission to share it—or unless someone’s safety is at risk (like a child or vulnerable adult). We know trust is essential, and we take confidentiality very seriously. You can ask us more about our privacy practices anytime.
-
What if I’m not ready to leave my partner yet?
That’s okay. You don’t have to leave to get help. Advocacy is available no matter where you are in your journey. We can help you understand your options, build a plan to stay safer, and support you whenever you’re ready—whether that’s today, next month, or next year.
-
I live outside of Safford—can you still help me?
Yes. We provide advocacy services across Southeastern Arizona, including in rural areas where access to support may be limited. Through our mobile program, we can often meet you in places like Thatcher, Pima, Clifton, or Duncan. If you’re not sure if we cover your area, just give us a call or text and we’ll help figure it out.
