Common Questions About Our Services
What to know before you reach out
-
Are your services really free?
Yes. All of our services—including shelter, advocacy, support groups, and assistance with housing—are completely free of charge. We are a nonprofit organization supported by grants and community donations, so survivors never have to worry about cost. Our priority is making sure you feel safe, supported, and informed without adding financial pressure. Whether you’re calling for advice or staying in our shelter, you won’t be billed or asked for payment.
-
Can I get help even if I don’t need shelter?
Absolutely. Many people we help don’t stay in our shelter but still need support like court advocacy, safety planning, or help with basic needs. You can meet with one of our advocates, attend support groups, or get assistance with housing or job skills without being a shelter resident. Our services are flexible so we can meet you where you are—physically and emotionally.
-
Do you help everyone?
We provide support and shelter to individuals and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Our services are confidential and available to people of all ages. Everyone deserves safety and care, and we encourage you to reach out if you’re unsure whether we can assist. We’re here to listen and help you take the next step.
-
What should I bring if I need to come to shelter?
If you’re able to bring personal identification, medications, clothing, and any important documents, that’s helpful—but not required. We understand that in many cases, people leave in a hurry and arrive with little or nothing. We’ll provide essentials like food, hygiene items, and clothing, and we’ll work with you to replace documents or medications if needed. If you have children or pets with you, we’ll make space for them too.
-
Is your location private and secure?
Yes, our shelter location is kept confidential for the safety of everyone staying here. Visitors are not allowed without approval, and we follow strict safety protocols to ensure a secure environment. If you’re concerned about your abuser finding you, know that we take these concerns seriously and have procedures in place to protect your privacy. Once you contact us, we can talk about your situation and help create a safety plan that works for you.
